  • When you consume large amounts of candy sugar after a lengthy hiatus, this might occur:

        - Slight to moderate nausea
        - Difficulty concentrating around the pounding in your head
        - Very real notion that the room is tilting and spinning beneath you
        - Constriction of the chest - difficulty breathing.

    All conjecture of course.

  • What if you could tell your life story based on the showers you've taken?
Not all of them mind you....the important ones? I can think of a few.

It's a dark bathroom: a thin window, dark wood paneling and dark wallpaper. One of the light bulbs over the sink is perpetually blinking out, sputtering yet never stopping. I sit in the shower, crying like my heart would break....the week of VBS is over and all my lovely little 5 year olds will be going back to their homes, far from me, some far from God.

Once you walk into the communal bathroom, its a turn to the right - all the way down on the end. The least likely shower stall to be taken, flooding the region immediately to the front and boasting a curtain which frequently ends up flush with your legs. It's a chore to keep from falling in those cases.  A fine shower nevertheless, with great acoustics, particularly nice when the other showers have occupants that can harmonize.

Everything matches, gifts from multiple wedding showers - bamboo themed, green and brown. A shower with my variety of cleaning solutions....with as well as two loufa's and a man's body wash. Enamel on a certain floor spot is peeling up, pipes gushing with water for neighboring apartments drown out my singing.  Sometimes I shower alone.

They do tell a story, the showers we take. Interesting really.

    P.S.
I'd like to add to my list of things to do.... I think I should like to shower in 20 different countries. So far, up to 4. USA, France, Spain, Morocco. the race is on!

New Focus, Shift the Paradigm Slightly

It's amazing. Truly amazing when one begins to consider life an oppurtunity to pray.

My car is devoid of air conditioning, its a little hot these record-breaking heat days in Austin traffic. What an oppurtunity, as i sit in my little oven, to remember my friends living in countries devoid of air conditioning - countries in which the normal temp exceeds an Austin record-breaking heat day.

My days are shanghi-ed by enormous to-do lists. What an oppurtunity to lift up those facing momentous decisions: career choices, college options, and serious relationships.

My stable, no-nonsense, self-reliant emotional side has been turned upside down - independant Alaina must confess to dependance and reliance upon another. What an oppurtunity to bring before the throne the church, the supernatural fellowship of believers who are called to be known by their love.

I could continue the list indefinatly. All of my life, my every experience, discomfort, and excitement can be a portal to prayer. What it takes is an adoption of John's understanding about Jesus - "He must increase, I must decrease".
